That Smiley Face in the Sky

Better late than never - this photo was taken on 1 December!!
I was out at a Christmas Party and received a phone call to go look at the smiley face in the sky! So all 10 ladies rushed outside to take a look - there was Venus and Jupiter appearing as the eyes and the crescent moon as the smile - this photo is great because the filter toned down the light of the moon to show the entire moon - hope you can see it in this shot. The pic was taken by a friend of my husband using a telescope. The planets appear close but in fact Venus is 93 million miles away, and Jupiter 540 million miles away.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful photo. Andrew is very impressed and your photo has led to a long discussion about planets!! Tricia
